First Landing
The First Landing Tour is a 2 1/2 hr, relaxing trail ride through nearby First Landing State Park. Beginning on the Oceanfront bike path alongside the Virginia Beach boardwalk, guests get a good feel for the heart of the true “beach experience.” The ride continues through the beautiful residential North End neighborhood of Virginia Beach. Ranging from quirky beach cottages to multi-million dollar homes, this seaside neighborhood is full of character and local color. The scenery quickly changes as we enter the welcome shade of First Landing. With diverse landscapes ranging from cypress lowlands to canopies forests, this living salt marsh ecosystem is home to various species of bird including Osprey and Heron, as well as bountiful plant life. Pedaling this beginners’ loop takes us alongside the tranquil waters of Broad Bay, a branch of the Chesapeake, and finaly out to the 64th street “Narrows” area, home to a quaint beach and boat ramp facilitiy, and a popular “sunny day” local spot. Come ride with us and enjoy both the natural and historical beauty that this unique area has to offer. Cost is $40 per person.
Cape Henry
With its unparalleled historical significance and array of unique natural beauty, the Cape Henry/ Fort Story coastal area provides guests with an attractive and educational experience. Pedaling through the gates of Fort Story, an active United States Military base that specializes in amphibious training, riders begin their journey into the history of early America, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay. You will have the rare opportunity to gaze at the site of the colonists’ first landing in the New World, climb the first federal lighthouse built in the United States, and hear the story of one of the most important naval battles in American history that took place at this very spot. Along with all of these exciting treasures, visitors have the opportunity to stand on the dunes and watch Virginia Beach’s friendly bottlenose dolphins as they play in the gentle surf. Cancellation Policy
Cancellations and tour changes must be made within 24 hours of scheduled start time. No-shows will be charged full tour amount. Chesapean Outdoors reserves the right to reschedule kayak dolphin tours to a safer location (First Landing State Park, Chesapeake Bay, or other) in the event of strong winds or rough seas. Tours may be cancelled due to inclement weather or safety issues. Notice of changes or cancellations will be made as soon as possible, by 8 AM the morning of the tour. Tipping is customary and greatly appreciated.
Tipping
Guides work extremely hard to please guests and provide the highest quality tour. If you enjoy your tour and feel that your guide has done his or her job, please remember tipping is customary and greatly appreciated.
What to Bring?
For kayak tours, guests may get wet and are advised to wear appropriate clothes or swim suits as well as sandals, flip-flops, or water shoes. Sunscreen (SPF 30+) and water is highly recommended for all guests on all tours. Bug spray may be desired for tours in First Landing State Park. Waterproof cameras are a wonderful way to capture vacation memories and re-loadable, waterproof GoPro Hero cameras are available in our retail shop. We also carry flip-flops, sunscreen, SPF lip-protectors, and bug spray.
